Paper Mario, Ghost of Tsushima & More | In Review & Out Today

As the coronavirus numbers rise, our video game overlords are here to give us the good goods.

So the week is ending and I’m just now realizing just how uneventful that it was. Straight up I can’t think of a single thing that released or happened this week that set it apart in the slightest. Hm.

On the bright side, it’s finally Friday and there actually are things to look forward to today — a couple, in fact! But we’ll get to those in a minute.

  • We recorded a new episode of Party Crashers on Monday and I believe that show keeps getting better and better. HK is feeling more comfortable with each episode that he’s apart of and as he slides deeper into that third chair, the balance of it all is really working. Excited to continue doing that show throughout the rest of the year as we anticipate the new consoles.

  • One week until the Xbox Games Conference! No hardware announcements or specs — just games. I’m down with that. Plus the announcement of xCloud being added to Game Pass at no additional charge? Xbox is winning on so many levels right now. But then again, so is PlayStation. We all win!

  • Wear a fucking mask, people. It’s really simple. Numbers are going up in my area because of lousy people partaking in 4th of July parties and all of that stuff is just so unavoidable. Don’t gather around with people you don’t normally associate with in your small circle. And if you must for whatever reason, wear a mask.

  • Shoutout to Broad City — my wife and I rewatch that series at least once per year and honestly the fact that we won’t get to see them take on COVID-19 in the city is disappointing.

  • This week I went back and registered to GlassJaw’s Worship & Tribute which is kind of out of my element since I don’t really get down with heavier music much anymore but man, GlassJaw is the exception. What a fantastic band and that album holds up better than most do from that genre and time period. Excellent stuff.

  • Palm Springs is the best movie of the year so far. That’s a fact. What a surprising film that is above a caliber I expect to get for free on Hulu. Everybody needs to watch it. Like, literally everyone.

  • That Zac Efron show that hit Netflix last week is a very, very good time. Super informative and forward thinking in the way he presents issues like climate change to a younger audience that may be watching because they enjoyed High School Musical back in the day. I hope it’s eye opening for a good portion of people that decide to dive into it.

Alright, so let’s take a look at the day.

As for what I’d recommend this week — not much for TV or movies, honestly. Fallon is back in the studio so maybe just watch that. And Palm Springs. And that Zac Efron show. For music, there’s a bunch of new singles to check out and that KYLE album is probably great.

But what today is REALLY about — Paper Mario: The Origami King and Ghost of Tsushima. Two of my most anticipated games of the year are out on the same day and I am ready to dive into both of them this weekend. I’m probably going to start with Paper Mario while I let Ghost of Tsushima download and install and then once it’s done, I’ll grab my lil samurai sword and chop some mf’ers to bits.

Stay safe, everybody. Play games. And when you aren’t, wear a mask.
