Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Impressions

Along with the launch of the Nintendo Switch back in March, Nintendo also released a controller dedicated to the hardcore gamer called the Pro Controller. This piece of equipment was designed to give the player the best experience possible while playing games on it’s dedicated system. I have personally used the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Kamiko.

Before I continue I most note that I did not have any problems with the Joy-Con’s - both separately and combined with the Joy-Con Grip - they are fantastic controllers in each fashion. Although having a controller that is similar to the Xbox One and Dual Shock 4 to play games on my Switch is definitely an improvement. The controller feels great in your hands and the larger buttons make playing games much easier and enjoyable. The HD Rumble feedback is good in the Pro Controller, however, with my experience, the right side of the Pro Controller has a stronger rumble than the left side. I don’t know if that was based on the games that I was playing specifically or if it is a mechanical flaw but I felt it was worth mentioning. The Amiibo functionality is also very intuitive and I had no problems scanning my Amiibo into each respectable game. The overall build of the controller is fantastic - it doesn’t feel cheap and when compared to the aforementioned competitors it is actually the heaviest of the three.

Overall I think if you plan on investing in the Nintendo Switch this is a must-have accessory. With games like Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey slated for later this year the Pro Controller will vastly improve your experience.
