Recommendation Monday (7/31/17)

Manchester Orchestra released their newest album, A Black Mile To The Surface, on Friday and it is easily one of the best albums of the year. I've actually had it for a few weeks now and during that entire time all I've been able to think about is whether or not this is their best project in their career as a band thus far. I want to say yes - because it truly is a fantastic record - but the nostalgia that I have for Mean Everything To Nothing is what makes that such a hard decision. Luckily, this thought process means nothing and I do not have to choose because I can have both - and I do have both. After the disappointing Cope, this album is a sigh of a relief for me - a band I once loved, returned to form.

My other music recommendation for this week is new to Apple Music, but also a record I have had for quite some time. The newest Passion Pit album entitled Tremendous Sea of Love is now available to the masses and it almost sounds as if it's a love-letter to all that have stood by Michael's side during it's creation, and even more-so, the last few years. It's personal, it's a little heartbreaking but it also feels as if someone is whispering in your ear that "there's light at the end of the tunnel". Michael has dealt with a lot of mental health issues in the last few years and he is using the release of this record to spread awareness to a topic that means the most to him. I suggest everyone listens to this album and looks into what this man has to size outside of it as well.

Tyler, The Creator has been on quite a roll lately. His latest venture is a television show on Viceland called Nuts & Bolts. In this show, Tyler simply picks something that he thinks is awesome and finds out how it is made. An interesting show where you learn something new mixed with the humor and engaging personality of Tyler is the perfect recipe for an entertaining television show. The show premieres this week but the first episode is currently available to watch on Viceland On Demand.

My game recommendation for this week is for a game that has been available on most platforms already but is finally available on the Nintendo Switch. Overcooked, to me, is one of the best co-op games available on any system but it fits right at home on the Switch because of the ability to take it with you anywhere you go and split the Joy-Con for an easy multiplayer experience. It's a game I have turned countless amounts of people on to because of its simple controls but complex comprehension. The "Gourmet Edition" of the game featuring all of the DLC is currently $19.99 in the eShop.
