Final Fantasy 7 Remake, The Strokes & More | This Week In New Releases - 4.10.2020

Another week in isolation means another week of video games and sweet tunes and today is no exception.

The first few days of this week were pretty slow moving, huh? There wasn’t much going on at all so I found myself just hunting eggs in Animal Crossing to please this damn rabbit that’s gonna pop his head back up on Sunday. I read something on the internet that told me what this prize he’s got for me if I make all these recipes is and I gotta be honest, it’s not too exciting. Did I waste my time? No, I don’t think so. Because the game is lovely. NO TIME IS WASTED.

  • We did our first episode of Funny Business LIVE last night! Kevin, Shawn, Matt and myself video chatted about what we’ve all been up to during this quarantine and streamed the entire conversation to Twitch and Facebook simultaneously and it was quite the good time! We may look at doing stuff like this more in the future so stay tuned! I’ll have the VOD of the episode on YouTube and podcast services most likely later today.

  • Alex and I are doing Party Crashers at noon today! So once we're done I'll be rushing to get that edited and posted alongside Funny Business. It's weird that it always ends up this way - those podcasts not seem to go up around the same exact time, recorded a day apart. You can't say I'm not timely, I suppose.

  • I also just wanna shout out Dave on FXX which continues to impress me each week with how much I actually enjoy it. I thought it was going to be so, so stupid when I first read that it wasa thing but damn, it’s actually great.

  • Oh, and I finally re-watched The Rise of Skywalker, and like I said in the Funny Business stream, yesterday, man was I wrong about that movie. There’s still a couple pivotal scenes I disagree with but that movie stands up to the others, for sure. With the hype and preconceived ideas of what I thought was going to happen in the film finally gone from brain and with the acceptance of what I know is happening in the film settled, I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s a great conclusion and a great Star Wars film and if you get a chance to watch the two hour documentary within the physical copies bonus features, do it. It will make you love the movie even more after watching it.

Anyways, there’s a bunch of fun stuff releasing today so without further adieu, here’s everything I thought was worthy of mentioning that you may be excited about as well.

As for my personal recommendations from these lists - without a doubt, Final Fantasy 7 Remake - that goes without saying. It's going to end up being one of the best games of the year, even with the competition it looks like it's going to have.

I was excited about Brews Brothers when I read the premise and who was involved but the trailer was not great and the reviews aren't either so I may have to pass on that one. I may check out this Tigertail film though - a writer and director of Master of None and Parks & Rec? Sign me the fuck up.

And for music, the new Phoebe Bridgers song is obviously fantastic - her new album will be out in June and I have zero doubts that it'll end up in my top ten for the year because she's wonderful. The Strokes, Hamilton Leithauser and Trace Mountains are all pretty highly anticipated from me so I'll be checking those out today and will report back if any blow me away.

Until next time!
